Jalen Johnson - Class of 2022

About Jalen Johnson

Currently, the youngest City Commissioner ever elected in Albany, Georgia, and former Capitol Hill professional, Jalen Johnson is a dedicated public servant with a passion for writing legislation in critical areas such as homeland security, public safety, rural health, and education policy. Jalen has a proven track record of producing results for his community.

Born and raised in Albany, GA, Jalen's determination to overcome poverty and adversity led him to become the first in his immediate family to graduate college, earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University. During his time in college, Jalen interned on Capitol Hill for Congressman Mark Walker (NC-6), which launched his professional career as a Staff Assistant to Congressman Rodney Davis (IL-13), then as a communications analyst on a national presidential campaign, and eventually as a Legislative Aide to Representative Byron Donalds (FL-19).

Jalen's desire to serve his local community in Albany, GA, led him to leave Washington, D.C., and return to his home state of Georgia. In November 2021, Jalen's commitment to public service was recognized when he was elected to the Albany, GA, City Commission, becoming the youngest ever to hold such a position. In this role, he is committed to positively impacting his community and helping others in any way possible.

In his full-time capacity, he works as the Director of Grassroots Advocacy for the Georgia Charter Schools Association, where he fights for equal access to high-quality public education for every child regardless of background or zip code.

During his free time, Jalen finds great joy in spending quality time with his loved ones, fishing, and exploring the natural wonders of the great outdoors. He's also an avid country music enthusiast, a Luke Combs fan, and enjoys traveling to new and exciting destinations around the globe.

Future Plans

Jalen's future plans involve continued service to his community and region in any way that he is most effective. Whether that's volunteering at the local boys and girls club, helping children in the local school district achieve high-quality education, or in his capacity as City Commissioner. Jalen is focused on the next few years in local office.
