Washington, D.C.

Katie Martin is a Partner at Big Dog Strategies (BDS) overseeing general consulting and media strategy roles on statewide and congressional races. At BDS, Martin spearheads strategy and budgets for multi-million-dollar statewide campaigns as well as strategy and budgets for congressional races.

A senior-level public affairs and political professional with over a decade of communications, strategic planning, and crisis management experience, Martin also serves as a media consultant working with candidates for the NRCC and NRSC. Before joining BDS, Martin served as a top communications aide to Secretary Pompeo at the State Department, holding the titles of Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Media Strategy and Press Secretary. At State, Martin responded to issues with extreme speed and accuracy in a constantly changing global news cycle. She advised Secretary Pompeo on all aspects of the Department’s press strategy, which included media engagement with both domestic and international outlets, managing global public affairs crises in real time, and coordinating national and international media outreach to shape policy narratives and to achieve the Department’s messaging goals. Secretary Pompeo called Martin "a warrior who pushed back on lazy reporters and urged them to write better stories that reflected the reality of our work.”

Before joining State, Martin served as the Communications Director for the NRSC during the 2018 election cycle, where Senate Republicans made history by adding to its Republican Majority in President Trump’s first midterm election. In the same cycle, Martin was named a Power Player on Politico Playbook’s Power List of The New Guard as a Republican operative in “hand to hand combat” with the ability to cut through the noise.

Martin was also the Communications Director for the NRCC, where she helped House Republicans protect their historic Majority in 2016. Earlier in her career, Martin served as a Regional Press Secretary at the NRCC during the 2014 election cycle when House Republicans won 247 House seats, the largest Majority since World War II. An American Association of Political Consultants 40-Under-40 winner in 2022, Martin has also worked on Capitol Hill and served in leadership roles on numerous campaigns across the country.
